Nurturing Tomorrow's Guardians: Ewaffe Foster Camp 2025
By Ambassador Kim Walusimbi, PRO Ewaffe Cultural Village
November 09th, 2025
As a lifelong advocate for cultural preservation and youth empowerment, I've always believed that the soul of a nation resides in its stories, traditions, and the young hearts that carry them forward. In my diplomatic journeys across continents, from the bustling streets of Kampala to the vibrant Ugandan communities in London, Toronto, and beyond, one truth remains unshakable: our children are the bridges between yesterday's wisdom and tomorrow's innovations. That's why I'm thrilled to champion the second edition of the Ewaffe Children’s Foster Camp 2025 – a beacon of cultural immersion and personal growth hosted by the incomparable Ewaffe Cultural Village.
If you're a parent in Uganda watching your child navigate the fast-paced world of screens and schedules, or part of our resilient diaspora raising the next generation with a foot in two worlds, this is your invitation to weave deeper roots. For stakeholders in cultural heritage – educators, NGOs, and community leaders – it's a call to collaborate in safeguarding Uganda's rich tapestry. Mark your calendars: from December 7th to 11th, 2025, this transformative five-day residential camp at Ewaffe Cultural Village promises not just fun, but a profound awakening to our indigenous heritage.
A Journey Back to Our Roots, Forward to Empowerment
Picture this: a group of wide-eyed boys and girls, aged 8 to 18, stepping off the bus into the lush embrace of Ewaffe Cultural Village – Uganda's premier haven for authentic cultural experiences. Here, amid verdant farms and echoing drumbeats, they'll trade urban hustle for hands-on wonders. Farm tours reveal the rhythms of sustainable agriculture, where picking fresh fruits isn't just a snack but a lesson in earth's generosity. Cooking courses transform simple ingredients into steaming plates of Luwombo, a dish that binds families across generations. Fishing expeditions on serene waters teach patience and respect for nature, while evening storytelling sessions under starlit skies ignite imaginations with tales of ancient heroes and moral quandaries.
Building on the inaugural camp's success – where over 100 young participants left with glowing eyes and fuller hearts – this second edition elevates the experience. Last year's campers raved about forging lifelong friendships and discovering skills they never knew they craved, like basket weaving that doubles as entrepreneurial know-how or drum-making that pulses with rhythmic confidence. One parent shared, "My daughter returned not just happier, but prouder – ready to champion our Baganda heritage in her school debates." We've listened and expanded: more interactive leadership dialogues with community elders and mentors, sharper focus on critical thinking, and eco-friendly twists that align with global sustainability goals.
At its core, the camp fulfills three vital objectives:
Igniting Cultural and Heritage Appreciation: Exposing our youth to Uganda's diverse norms and values, fostering civic pride and a global mindset that honors diversity.
Building Practical Life Skills Versatility: Equipping them with real-world skills – from traditional crafts to modern adaptations – to nurture resilient, adaptable African citizens.
Sparking Critical Dialogue: Through facilitated interactions with leaders, encouraging questions that challenge, inspire, and innovate.
In partnership with Higher Level Tours and Travel, we've ensured seamless logistics, from airport pickups for diaspora families to inclusive accommodations that welcome all abilities. At just UGX 500,000 per participant (with early bird perks and group rates for schools), it's an accessible investment in your child's future – covering meals, activities, materials, and memories that last a lifetime.
Why Now? Why Ewaffe? A Message to Parents and Heritage Guardians
To parents across Uganda: In a world pulling our children toward uniformity, Ewaffe offers a sanctuary to reclaim identity. Imagine your son or daughter returning home fluent in folktales that echo your own childhood, armed with tools to lead community projects. It's not escapism; it's empowerment.
For our Diaspora families: Distance may separate you from the red earth of home, but this camp closes the gap. Virtual previews and post-camp reunions keep the connection alive, ensuring your little ones – whether in New York or Nairobi – grow up bilingual in culture and curiosity. As one London-based mother told me, "It was the gift of 'home' we couldn't pack in a suitcase."
And to you, stakeholders in cultural development: Ewaffe isn't just hosting; it's partnering. Sponsor a workshop, host a session on heritage tech, or amplify our reach through your networks. Together, we can amplify voices often unheard, turning passive observers into active stewards of Uganda's legacy. Our vision? To crown Ewaffe as Uganda's leading Cultural Tourism Center, where education meets exhilaration.
